Variations is a standard anal lubricant. It is oil-based, so people can depend on it for good penetration slickness. I can't find any real distinguishable characteristics that make the lube better than Astroglide Anal Lubrication or Climax Bursts Anal Lube, which are the two best anal lube formulas.
Variations accomplishes its mission. I didn't have any problems with it drying up. It stays slick for as long as I want to play around. Silicone-based lubricants are better than oil-based lubricants - with the one exception being massage, which oil-based lubricants are very good for. Variations contains Mineral Oil that is easier to wash off of skin, so that's one added benefit of using it. The biggest downside for me was that it's not latex compatible. Polyurethane condoms will work, but they're not always convenient. Overall, a decent lube, but I prefer to use the ones mentioned above.

I didn't experience any pain, so Variations does get slick enough for anal sex. It just doesn't have a smoothness that I like. The lube thickens up and slows penetration down.

Variations is not a good anal lubricant. No thank you, never again, no way. I suggest that men try Boy Butter and Climax Bursts Anal Lube instead. I've had great results from both lubes. I disliked Variations very much.
